The Hideaway - Access Statement

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. 

Introduction

Hop Pickers Hideaway is a small, friendly, quiet, and secluded hut, in a rural setting and you will have open views across our grassland as well as beautiful far-reaching views towards The Malvern Hills. The Hut is set in woodland with a private hot tub in a secluded part of the 8-acre smallholding.

Pre-Arrival

For full details and maps of how to reach us please see the location plan on the website.  The postcode is WR6 5JX, final directions will be sent with your booking confirmation.

The nearest railway station is Malvern Link which is 6 miles away.  Taxis are available at this station, if you require an accessible taxi this can be booked through Access Taxis Phone: 07749621594. There is only 1 bus per day from the end of Dingle Road.

The final 300 yards of your journey are on an unsurfaced farm track before entering the main gravel driveway of Pigeon House Farm.

Once booked you will receive booking confirmation via e-mail along with detailed directions. Further details you may require are available upon arrival.

We ask visitors who have any special needs or requirements to let us know on booking; we will try our best to accommodate.

Arrival is from 4pm and departure by 11am.  Sometimes this can be flexible if the Hut is not occupied before or after your dates.  If you are going to be very late, please call ahead and we can arrange to leave a torch and the lights on.

Key collection, Welcome and Car Parking

The hut is available from 4pm on the day of arrival until 10am on the day of departure (unless otherwise agreed)

Please advise your approximate arrival time to ensure that you will be greeted and shown around the property.

There is 1 dedicated car parking space approximately 2 minutes’ walk from the Hut.  A luggage wheelbarrow is provided if required. There are 2 stone steps leading to a gravel path to the left of the space which leads up to the hut or you can take the grass path to the right which is a gentle up hill slope then levels off at the hut.

You will go through a metal archway into the woodland and find yourself at the back of the hut, the gravel path leads round to the right to the front decking which overlooks an open field towards the Malvern Hills,

The decking is raised up with 3 wooden decking steps onto a balcony which are annually coated in an anti-slip paint.  

Entrance to The Hut and Interior

Access into the Hut is up 3 steps onto wooden balcony decking (this is treated annually with non-slip paint). The balcony decking has a table and chairs at the far end and a parasol in the summer months for shade.  The double doors open to 120cm wide or just one door open is a width of 60cm. There is a small step of 8cm into the hut.

The door leads into an open plan kitchen/lounge/bedroom which is all on one level. The bed is at the end of the hut on the right, accessed from one side at a height of 80.cm.

There is a kitchen area with gas double oven, 4 ring hob, microwave oven, small Belfast sink and mixer tap with cold and hot mains water. Over counter storage for glasses and crockery. The counter tops are solid wood which is coated and wipeable at a height of 92cm. There is an undercounter fridge with small freezer pocket. Under counter storage and drawers store cookware and a separate cupboard for a pull-out bin.

The floor is polished wood and has underfloor heating. There is an Aga wood burner in the left corner which sits on a granite heatproof slab. The central heating is controlled by a touch screen panel which is pre-programmed on a timer.

The shower room is on the left end of the hut with a wooden door (width of 62cm) and has a full height shower behind a glass sliding door, a small sink (height of 83cm) with wall mounted double sided mirror. There is a button flush WC with a soft close lid. A high shelf above the WC with a shaving point at a similar height (180cm).

The hut has mains electricity and water.

Local Area

The Shepherd’s hut is on a family small holding positioned on the outskirts of the village of Leigh which is 6 miles between Great Malvern and Worcester. Shared with 3 self-catering units, a Barn which sleeps 5, a log cabin which sleeps 4, a seasonal bell tent for 2 and the owner’s family farmhouse. All the units are well spaced between the 8-acre small holding to ensure privacy.

You can walk directly from Hop Pickers Hideaway to the Malvern Hills across footpaths with just 1 main road to cross. The Malvern Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We are just 10 minutes from Junction 7 of the M5 motorway approximately 2 hours from London or Manchester and less than an hour from Birmingham.

Dogs must not be left unattended in the Shepherd huts and please do not let your dogs on the furniture. We have contacts for dog sitting services.

There is ample space to exercise your dog, with bins provided for dog waste.  Whilst on site, all dogs must be on their lead.

General information, such as emergency contact details, taxi and bus information, local eateries, local shops for amenities etc. are provided in the guest information manual.

In the event of any emergencies the owners can be contacted either onsite or by mobile phone which is clearly marked in the information manual along with all other emergency details, including local Hospitals, Doctors, Vets, Fire, Police etc.

The hut has a smoke alarm and carbon monoxide monitor. Although we have a fire blanket and fire extinguishers in the hut, in the unlikely event of a fire, please follow the evacuation procedure and make your way to fire point at the main gate.

Please keep all entrances and exits free from obstruction in case of an emergency.

Utility Room Shed

Approximately 50m from the hut is a shed which contains a washing machine, dryer, chest freezer and an ironing station.  There is a cushioned vinyl floor and space for any additional storage. From the car parking space, the shed is located on the garden behind the greenhouse.

Outside the shed are 2 rotary clothes airers.

Outside

A gravel path surrounds the hut, the path leads around the balcony to the private hot tub. There is a fire pit with a tripod for BBQ or a small charcoal BBQ on request.  The hut looks out to approx. 4 acre field where two horses graze.

There are footpaths directly from the property.

Additional Information

The Shepherd’s Hut is on wheels and is accessed via 3 steps up to a decking balcony. The doors are 3m high and open to 1.2m

The hot tub is maintained at 37 degrees which is the recommended temperature, instructions for use will be provided upon check in.

Logs are provided for both the fire pit and the log burner, there is plenty for your stay and should you require more please advise us.

We are a non-smoking establishment.

There are exterior lights on the Shepherd hut.

WIFI access is available – details on arrival.

There is mobile phone coverage, but it varies between networks.
